With a new government in the UK being dedicated to a fossil fuel phase out, there is an opportunity for the nation to advance the most ambitious oil and gas transition policy of any major economy or any major oil and gas producing nation. This has the potential to restore the UK’s international leadership on climate and create a powerful global ripple effect of ambition on oil and gas phase-out.
To help achieve this goal, the UK-based campaign organization Uplift is working with academics and CSOs to provide research, analysis, and campaigning that can enable decision makers to support a rapid and fair transition away from oil and gas production in the UK.
Uplift
The main objective for Uplift is to secure a just transition for workers and communities with ties to the oil and gas sector and ensure that the broader costs of the energy transition are distributed fairly, as well as ensuring that the UK's commitments to oil and gas phase-out are durable and ambitious. Uplift has been a KR Foundation grantee since 2022, and this grant builds on their previous work to pave the way for a fossil fuel phaseout in the UK.
